The power supply is the cornerstone of the entire audio system. All kinds of circuits in the system are modulators of the power supply in the final analysis, which output the original signal after various transformations and processing. Its energy is provided by the power supply. The quality of the power supply directly determines the final performance level of the entire system. The power supply in the audio system is nothing more than linear power supply and switching power supply. The working principles of the two are completely different, so the performance of the two in the audio field is naturally concerned by audio designers and audio users.

In the power amplifier, due to the high power and high dynamic characteristics of the power amplifier, a simple linear power supply is usually used, that is, the power frequency transformer plus a simple rectifier filter circuit is used for the circuit. Only in high-demand situations is the driving stage also stabilized.

The capacitor filter rectifier power supply used in general high-fidelity audio power amplifiers must use a large-capacity transformer to ensure high performance, so the power supply system has problems such as volume, heavy weight and high cost. A well-designed linear voltage-stabilized power supply has high performance and can reduce the quality of the power supply system to a certain extent. However, since the voltage stabilization circuit must use high-quality components, this will further reduce the cost performance of the power supply. At the same time, the power tube in the voltage stabilization circuit consumes a large amount of power because it works in the amplification area, which will lead to a decrease in the efficiency of the power supply system.

High-frequency switching power supplies are small in size, light in weight, and high in efficiency, so they are widely used in electronic products. However, since the performance of general switching power supplies in audio power amplifiers is not satisfactory, it has not been widely used in high-fidelity audio power amplifiers. In-depth analysis of the reasons for the poor performance of switching power supplies in audio power amplifiers is the key to developing audio-specific switching power supplies. Practice has proved that switching power supplies designed with targeted measures based on the special requirements for audio power amplifier power supplies and the characteristics of switching power supplies perform very well in audio power amplifiers. Experiments and subjective listening evaluations have shown that it can completely replace other forms of power supplies and become the mainstream of audio power amplifier power supplies.
